Network Engineer

Position Description

The Network Engineer provides internal and external customer technical support on all levels of supported technologies, and performs development and maintenance of new and existing products. Responsibilities include technical customer service and internal technical support, troubleshooting and assisting in customer installations, researching and recommending core network technology needs of company. The Network Engineer must comply with established policies, procedures and overall Company Core Values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and upgrade network infrastructure
  • Plan for improvements and expansions to the network
  • Perform research and development to help develop new products or enhance existing products
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation on technical procedures and client support issues
  • Participate in and contribute to after-hours scheduled maintenance and outage tasks, as needed
  • Have knowledge of and actively adhere to the Company’s Security and Acceptable Use, Records Management and Retention and Disaster Recovery Plan

Education and Experience Requirements

  • 4+ years network installation, maintenance and troubleshooting experience with wired and wireless solutions
  • 4+ years networking experience with Cisco and Juniper routers and switches
  • 3+ years with routing protocols including BGP, OSPF and MPLS
  • 2+ years fiber optic and WDM technologies including provisioning, configuration, splicing and/or troubleshooting
  • 2+ years IT support experience, preferably in a NOC/ticketing environment
  • 2+ years installation, navigation, and troubleshooting of FreeBSD, Windows, Linux and virtualization platforms
  • 1+ years with microwave and/or millimeter wave wireless technologies
  • 1+ years programming exposure with Shell scripting, Python or Perl
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Degree in computer related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • CCNA, JNCIA a plus
