Technical Account Manager

Position Description

The Technical Account Manager is responsible for engineering solutions for a growing base of existing customers and actively upgrading and selling to the existing customer base. Additionally, the position engineers solutions for prospective customers in collaboration with Account Executives. We’re looking for someone outgoing, creative, and confident, who thrives on a challenge; someone who loves sales, but is also eager to shape the sales process and our product development strategy!

Key Responsibilities

75% - Existing Base Development

  • Provide an exceptional customer experience to existing customers
  • Develop key existing accounts, focusing on data center services, collocation opportunities, fiber and wireless Internet connectivity, WAN development, Disaster Recovery planning, large high-speed Internet opportunities and virtualization services
  • Build and maintain long term client relationships with a consultative selling approach, and a high degree of interaction up upper level clients
  • Work closely with the technical teams to re-engineer solutions for existing customers
  • Attend networking events, company events, and by participating in higher-level networking organizations
  • Conduct client meetings and execute appropriate follow-up, emphasizing service benefits based on regular analysis of client goals, technical knowledge of product capabilities and limitations, and SupraNet’s key areas of differentiation
  • Prepare sales proposals, supporting diagrams, contract worksheets, service orders, capital expenditure forms, and sales reports as appropriate, and support the rest of the sales staff in these activities
  • Take advantage of position-relevant continuing education and training

25% - Sales Engineering

  • Use customer feedback, market knowledge, and review of current sales revenue streams to identify new products and services; identify prospective clients for new products and assist in implementation of new solutions
  • Work closely with the technical teams and Account Executives to engineer solutions for potential customers
  • Assist in the development of well documented procedures for the sales department that can be utilized and reviewed easily by all staff
  • Facilitate technical sales training sessions
  • Regularly review competition for positioning and pricing
  • Help marketing with roll out and planning of new products
  • Participate in company strategy meetings and sales meetings to continually improve process and provide feedback
  • Take a leadership role in providing mentorship, guidance, and regular assistance with projects and questions from the sales team

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, computer science or related field or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of previous sales experience in business-to-business sales
  • 3+ years of experience in a sales engineer or relevant product management role
  • Knowledge of underlying technologies of data center services business and interest in new, emerging and existing technologies
  • Strong sales, customer service, communications (including communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences), organizational and time management skills
  • High motivation, integrity, and ability to focus and work independently
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience with Microsoft Visio and Power Point a plus
  • Ability to use a Customer Resource Management system
